Shirley Alice Caldwell

Shirley Alice Caldwell, 90 years old of Mitchell, Illinois passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026.

Born on August 25, 1936, in Mt. Erie, Illinois to Clyde and Mamie (Chapman) Vandaveer. She was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren. She worked for fifteen (15) years at the Granite City K-mart until retirement.

She is survived by her four (4) sons, Austin (Annette) Caldwell, Craig Caldwell, Rory (Sherry) Caldwell, Kelly (Sherry) Caldwell, her brother Bill Vandaveer, eleven (11) grandchildren, eleven (11) great-grandchildren and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mamie (Chapman) Vandaveer, her husband Carl Dee Caldwell, her daughter, Melody Caldwell Sanders, her brothers Bob, Bennie, and Bernie and her sisters Joyce, Mary Lou and Ruth.

A visitation will be held on Friday October 9, 2026, from 9am to 11am at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City, Illinois. Graveside service 11:15 am at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon

The family wishes to thank Longevity Senior Living Memory Care Staff and Hospice of Southern Illinois Staff/Volunteers for their compassionate care of their mother.
