In Loving Memory of
John Charles Schwab

John Charles Schwab born January 11, 1937 in Litchfield, Illinois passed away peacefully at Evercare of Edwardsville Nursing Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Aloysius Schwab and mother Frances Schwab (nee Schwartz), and his three brothers, Louis, Harry, and David Schwab.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Schwab, lovingly married for 59 years, his son Charles John Schwab and daughter Rebecca Anne Schwab; his sister Irene White, niece Mary Frances Molumby with husband Blair Molumby; nephew Michael Schwab and nieces Debbie Windsor with husband Mark Windsor, Patty Durbin with husband Mark Durbin, and Donna Lemon. He is also survived by sister-in-law Helen Schwab, niece Kathy and her husband Robert, nephew Mark Schwab and his wife Christina, and Nancy Kearbey and her husband Shawn.  On his spouse’s side he is survived by brothers-in-law Robert Mehelic, Robert’s son Paul Mehelic and wife Betsy with their children Abigail, Chloe, and Louis; Robert’s daughters Julia Cleaver with her husband Jim and daughter Briana; Sarah Young with husband Ryan and his son Justin; Phillip and Patty Mehelic, and Michael Mehelic and his wife Maureen with daughter Angela Imhoff and her son Austin; and sister’s-in-law Jean Creamer, Marietta and David Dauwalter with their children Andrew, Joe, and Kathy Forbes and her husband Chris Forbes, and Andrea Herndon.                                                     

John and Mary Lou were married in St. Mary’s Church on August 11, 1966 and were about to celebrate 59 years of marriage. 

John, a graduate of Litchfield High School, served his country in the United States as a member of the National Guard and as a Message Center Clerk in Baumholder, Germany. Upon his honorary discharge he was employed for 21 years as a freight sales agent for the New York Central Railroad. He then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was employed in Enhanced Oil Recovery for 22 years at the Petrolite Corp. in Webster Groves.

Over the years John’s hobbies and interests included camping with family members in various parts of the United States, bowling in the Petrolite league, playing golf with his friends, and playing cards with Bill Rotter’s duplicate bridge group. An avid train buff, he also enjoyed watching sports; in particular Illini football and basketball, Cardinal baseball and professional golf.

A beloved father, John will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City, IL. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Mark Catholic Church in Madison, IL. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Memorials are appreciated to St. Mary and St. Mark Parish for Masses for John.
