In Loving Memory of
James E. Shemwell

James E. Shemwell, 83, of Granite City, Ill., born Oct. 3, 1930, in Dover, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Granite City, Ill.

Mr. Shemwell retired as a pipefitter at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis and Union Starch in Granite City. He retired in 1982. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. James served as a deacon at Glenview Chapel and remained active in the church community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah E. Carnahan, Shemwell, whom he married on June 26, 1956, in St. Louis, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Price and Bryleigh Greene; parents, Charley Harmon and Buena, Stavely, Shemwell; two sisters; and six brothers, one of which was an identical twin MIA in the Korean War in October of 1952.

Surviving are his daughters, Kathy Shemwell of Maryville, Ill., and Cindy (Mark) Reynolds of Granite City, Ill.; sons, Jim (Debie) Shemwell Jr., of Omaha, Neb., and Tom Shemwell of Granite City, Ill.; grandchildren, Sam Shemwell, Theresa Godwin, Benjamin Reno, Sarah Reno, and Gabriel Shemwell; great-grandchildren, Austin Reno, Calvin Reno and Ella Reno; and his sister, Mary Smith of Tomahawk, Wis.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Research, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Maynard officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Ill.
