Esther Gardner

Esther L. Gardner, 92, of Granite City, Ill., born July 11, 1921, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at her home.

Mrs. Gardner was manager of Venice Senior Center for 14 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of City Temple Assembly of God and the Ladies Groups at her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ausby Gardner; parents, George N. and Edith, nee Atkinson, Arnold; son, Richard; daughter, Beatrice Kay; sisters, Dora (Joel) Vaught, Geneive Brown and Martha Arnold; brothers, Benjamin (Gladys) Arnold and George (Mary) Arnold; a niece, Betty VanGilder; and a nephew, Larry Arnold.

Surviving are her son, Timothy (Susan) Gardner of Granite City; granddaughters, Cassie (Calvin) Wieneke and Sherry Gardner (fiance, Ross Adams); great-grandchildren, Calvin Jr., Caylee, Chelsey, Vivian, Austin and Valery; nieces that she raised, Sharon (Jim) Woodson of Granite City and Tina (Bill) Basset of Margate, Fla.; nieces, Gloria Huber of Granite City and Ada (Ora) Tindalle of Granite City; late nephews wife, Donna Arnold of Granite City; brother-in-law, John Brown; nephew, Gary (Joan) Brown of Gainsville, Mo.; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and family members she helped raise.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, March, 24, 2014, at the City Temple Assembly of God, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, March 24, 2014, at the City Temple Assembly of God, with Pastor Rich Cope officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Granite City, Ill.
