Douglas Lynn Weakley

Douglas Lynn Weakley, 57, of Edwardsville, Illinois, died peacefully at home on the morning of Monday, Aug. 18, 2025. Doug enjoyed outdoor adventure with his family, taking scenic day-drives to lesser-known regional historically significant sites and traveling to National Parks, as well as cooking and creating all-things-flavorful, including smoking varieties of meats and home-brewing craft beer, for his family and friends.

Born on Oct. 11, 1967, at the then-titled Mattoon Memorial Hospital, Doug was the firstborn to his loving parents, Carl Lynn and Sally Jo (Thompson) Weakley, originally from Sullivan, Illinois, but who lived decades in Edwardsville where they raised their family and built a well-respected accounting firm.

In his early years, Doug was passionate about the sport of go-kart racing, something his own father inspired in him and his sisters. Doug raced at local tracks in St. Louis and Springfield, Illinois to big tracks like Indianapolis Raceway Park and Daytona International Speedway. Karting was a family hobby that took Doug on many fun and memorable travels with his parents and sisters.

Doug was a proud Army Veteran. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves just after graduating high school and served on active duty with the U.S. Army from October 28, 1987 to October 27, 1991, earning the rank of Corporal, with the 8th Infantry of the 37th Calvary Armor Regiment. Doug was responsible for the operations and maneuvering of tanks while stationed at Coleman Barracks in Sandhofen, Germany, a town near Mannheim, Germany. He was also stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky. After returning home, Doug worked in the restaurant management industry and eventually rounded out his career in the recordkeeping division with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout his life, Doug cultivated a deep appreciation for the value of service to country in his own sons and wholly supported two of them also joining the Army during recent years.

Doug is survived by his four sons: Max, Simon, Noah and Benjamyn Weakley of Edwardsville, Illinois; two sisters: Stacy Weakley of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Samantha (Kevin) Price, of Greenwood, Indiana; niece Alexandra and nephew Ethan Price; and, the mother of his children Heather Weakley, of St. Louis.

Services are 3:30 pm Visitation to follow from 4 pm to 6 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at Saksa Funeral home on N. Kansas in Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, Doug’s family respectfully requests donations to help with funeral expenses and his end-of-life medical services, in care of Noah Weakley, be given directly to an immediate family member.
