Catherine Colleen Straub

Catherine Colleen Straub, 70, passed away on April 29, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.

She was born on May 7, 1955, in Belmond, Iowa, to Chester Dean and Mavis (Pierce) Gunderson. She married Robert Straub on September 23, 1977, and together they shared many years of love and companionship.

Catherine was a lifetime member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge 561 and the Women of the Moose, Chapter 82, having enrolled on January 3, 2001. During her time with the Women of the Moose, she earned several honors, including Academy of Friendship on February 21, 2016; Star Recorder on July 14, 2018; Green Cap Convocation on August 20, 2020; Past Regent on May 1, 2021; and College of Regents on July 1, 2022.

She enjoyed volunteering with Relay for Life, the American Red Cross, and Partners for Pets. She also enjoyed spending time with her beloved dog, Olive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Dean and Mavis Gunderson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Straub of Edwardsville, Illinois; her sister, Susan (Mike) Kuhlman of Conyers, Georgia; her brother, Dennis (Jane) Gunderson of Edwardsville, Illinois; her nephew, Ian Kuhlman; her niece and nephews, Dean (Hope) Gunderson and Amanda (Jonathon) Darrah; and her grandniece and grandnephew, Ela and Eik Gunderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to Moose Charities.

Visitation will be held on Monday May 4, 2026, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville, IL from 10am to 12pm.

The Funeral Service will be held at 12pm Monday May 4, 2026, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home, Edwardsville, IL with Minister Dennis Mayfield officiating. Burial will occur at a later date in Belmond, Iowa.
